The client needed to migrate more than 100 SQL databases from test to production and upgrade the SQL database server from 2008 to 2016 without impacting the business — including single databases of 300GB+.
The existing design suffered from poor application performance, a low security model, no redundancy for business-critical applications, and high operating cost from a high volume of support tickets.
SAT carried out capacity planning for the entire environment and implemented SQL Server with the Always On high-availability feature, migrating applications to a higher version for better throughput.
Security groups were designed for a multi-database environment within a single instance, high-security database solutions were implemented using a custom SQL port, and performance tuning improved the application experience.
SAT migrated 100+ databases and completed 20+ version upgrades from SQL 2008 to 2016 across seven clusters — with better performance, stronger security and lower operating cost.
